Client access codes
Updated September 2026
When you invite a client by email, Afterify doesn't just send a link. It prepares their account behind the scenes and mints a single-use code that lets them claim it. Understanding this flow helps you troubleshoot when a client says they can't get in.
What happens when you click Invite
The moment you send an invite from the client's Sharing page:
- Afterify pre-creates an account for that email address, locked and with no usable password yet.
- It mints a single-use code tied to that account.
- It emails your client a personal link carrying the code, plus their name and email.
Until the client acts, they appear in your Currently Invited list with a Pending badge.
What your client does
- They click the link in the invite email and land on an account-creation page on your website, with their name and email already filled in.
- They choose a password.
- They click Create Account.
That consumes the code, activates their account, signs them in, and opens the private gallery; if the client has just one project, they're taken straight into it. Back in your Studio, their row in Currently Invited flips from Pending to a green check.
From then on they log in normally with their email and the password they chose; the code is never needed again.
Codes are single-use
A code works exactly once. If someone opens the invite link again after the account has been created (or anyone else tries to reuse it), the page reports that the code expired or was already used, and no account is created or changed.
If your client sees that message, it usually means one of:
- They already created their account, so they should log in instead (there's a login page at the gallery link, and a password reset on it if they've forgotten).
- The invite was resent, and they opened the older email; each resend carries a new code, so only the newest invite link works. See Resend or revoke access.
The Copy Invite Link button on an invite row copies the client's personal account-creation link, so you can deliver it over text or chat instead of email.
