Two-factor authentication
Updated September 2026
Two-factor authentication (2FA) protects your account by requiring a code from your phone in addition to your password. Afterify sends the code by SMS to the phone number you enroll.
2FA is available on accounts that sign in with email and password. Your email address must be verified first: if the switch is disabled with "Email not verified", verify your email from the same Settings page and try again.
Enable two-factor authentication
- Open the account dropdown (person icon, top right) and choose Account Settings.
- Find the Two-Factor Authentication switch in the User section and turn it on.
- Enter your password when prompted. This confirms it's really you.
- In the Two Factor Authorization dialog, enter your Phone Number and click Send Code.
- Enter the six-digit Verification Code from the SMS. It submits automatically when the last digit is typed (or click Verify).
You'll see an "Added Two-Factor Authentication" confirmation, and the switch now shows your enrolled phone number.
Phone numbers are entered in US ten-digit format (Afterify adds the +1 country code automatically).
Signing in with 2FA
- Sign in at app.afterify.com with your email and password as usual.
- The Two Factor Authentication screen appears. Afterify texts a code to your enrolled number.
- Type the six-digit code. It verifies automatically on the last digit, or click Verify.
If you mistype, you'll see "The code you entered is invalid, please try again." and can re-enter it.
Disable two-factor authentication
- In Account Settings, turn the Two-Factor Authentication switch off.
- Enter your password when prompted, and verify with a code sent to your enrolled phone.
- You'll see "Removed Two-Factor Authentication" once it's off.
If you lose access to your phone
Disabling 2FA requires a code from the enrolled number, so sort this out before changing numbers:
- Changing numbers? Turn 2FA off while you still have the old phone, then re-enable it with the new number.
- Lost the phone already? You won't be able to complete sign-in yourself. Contact support from the email address on your account so we can verify you and help you regain access.
