Undo, redo and history

The website editor keeps a full undo history while you work, so you can experiment freely. This article explains what counts as a step, how far back you can go, and how Save and Cancel fit in.

Undo and redo

Use the Undo and Redo arrows above the canvas, or the keyboard:

• Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) to undo
• Ctrl+Shift+Z to redo

Every change you make counts as a step: moving or resizing a block, editing text, changing a color, adding or deleting a section. Rapid-fire changes that belong together, like a single drag or a color slider, are grouped into one step so undo doesn't crawl through every pixel of a drag.

The history holds up to 50 steps. Undoing and then making a new change discards the redo steps ahead of you, the same way it works in most design tools.

History lives in your edit session

History starts fresh each time you enter edit mode on a page, with the page's current state as the baseline. It's kept in your browser for that session only:

• Leaving edit mode (back to preview) clears the history.
• Refreshing the browser or switching pages clears it too.

So undo is for the editing session you're in right now, not for reaching back into last week's version of the page.

Save and Cancel are your checkpoints

Your live site only changes when you click Save in the sidebar. That makes Save and Cancel the two real restore points:

• Cancel discards everything since your last save and puts the page back exactly as it was. You'll be asked to confirm with Cancel Changes.
• Save publishes the current state of the canvas.

You can undo past a save within the same session. If you do, the editor marks the page as unsaved again and shows Save/Cancel, because the canvas no longer matches what's live. Save again to keep the older state, or redo to come back forward.

What history doesn't cover

A few actions are permanent and sit outside undo:

• Deleting a page removes the page and its uploaded images for good.
• Resetting your website (Website → Settings → Reset Website) removes all website content. Photos in your Studio are never touched by either of these.
