Client proofing and favorites

Updated September 2026

Once a client opens their gallery, they can do more than look. Depending on the project's settings, each photo offers favoriting, downloading, sharing and purchasing, and their activity flows back into your Studio so you can use favorites as a proofing round.

What clients see

The gallery shows the project's photos grouped by section, in the layout you chose on the Design page. Clicking a photo opens it large. Hovering a photo (or tapping on mobile) reveals its action buttons:

  • Favorite (heart): available when the project's Favoriting setting is on and the viewer is signed in. Clicking again removes the favorite.
  • Download (arrow): available when Downloading is on. See Client downloads.
  • Share: available when Social Sharing is on. It uses the device's native share sheet where supported, so clients can send a photo link straight to messages or social apps.
  • Add to cart: available when the project's Store is enabled and a price sheet is attached. See Store setup overview.

You control each of these per project on its Settings page.

Favorites as proofing

Favorites are per person and require a login, which is why invited access matters: each invited user (the couple, a parent, a planner) builds their own favorites list under their own account. That makes favorites a lightweight proofing workflow:

  1. Invite your client to the private gallery.
  2. Ask them to favorite their selects, such as the images they want retouched or printed.
  3. Review their picks in Studio.

In Studio, a favorited photo is marked on its tile in the project, and opening a photo shows its favorite count in the Image Details panel alongside views. The Workspace Highlights panel aggregates favorites, views, shares and downloads across your whole Studio for the week, month or last six months.

Favoriting only appears for signed-in viewers. On a public gallery, visitors without an account can browse and download (if enabled) but won't see the favorite button.

Commenting

Galleries don't have a commenting feature. Comments in Afterify belong to blog posts on your website; see Publish, comments and sharing. For photo-by-photo feedback beyond favorites, most photographers ask clients to reference photo names (shown in the viewer) in an email.
